Now,I know I may have had a bit of a moan about used car warranties in my last posting, but I actually have some good news about one product that I’d actually recommend.
One of our customers (who lives almost next door to us) has recently bought a 2003 Ford Fiesta and took out a mechanical breakdown warranty with Tesco. Yesterday, when her car started misfiring and the yellow ‘Engine Management’ light illuminated, it needed some urgent attention and we soon plugged it into the diagnostic machine. 10 minutes later and we’d diagnosed a failed ignition coil pack. The young lady told me that she had a warranty and that usual feeling of dread filled my head at the prospect of another wasted 30 minutes of my life ‘on hold’ waiting for me to be told it wasn’t covered.
After dialling the number (an 0844 and NOT an expensive 0870), a very helpful chap answered who took the details and mileage, and within 5 minutes had authorised the entire £190 cost of the claim. Our customer had her car back the same afternoon and didn’t have to pay a penny as Tesco are settling directly with us. Considering the fact that for a 12 month warranty costing just over £200, she’s already recouped the entire cost from just one breakdown.
Credit where it’s due, but I found the whole process of dealing with Tesco warranty admin a painless procedure with knowledgeable staff and no attempt to ‘weasel’ out of paying a legitimate claim.
Now, all I have to do is wait for their cheque!
