Although I love writing my blog, and am grateful to all my loyal readers for their support, there’s one aspect of ‘blogging’ that really gets me down. Every time I log-in to update or write a post, I’m notified that I have hundreds of comments ‘awaiting moderation’. Now, if these were all from excited new readers, that’d be great, but they’re not. There’s a whole army of ’spambots’ (I think they’re called that) out there on the internet that trawl through millions of web pages and, in the case of blog sites where comments are invited, they post text that’s usually just links to Viagra sites or similar. They almost always use a host of meaningless words or phrases that form meaningless sentences, but take up a huge amount of space. They also have to be erased one at a time by me (or my poor wife!), as they clog-up my whole system. Also, I have to trawl through them all to find the real comments posted by actual readers, which can take hours.
As a result, we’re going to upgrade to a newer version of the blog hosting software later this week, so we’ll be ‘off the air’ for a couple of days whilst Adam and his excellent team at Redder Graphic Design and Web Development work their magic. This new version will allow me to erase hundreds of spams at a time, instead of doing them all individually, which should save a lot of time and allow me to get on with the writing!
All being well, we’ll be back by the weekend, and I have a few posts waiting to share with you all about the wierd and wonderful world of the garage, its staff and some of our customers and their cars.
See you all soon
David
