For those of you that read my recent post about how to lose £21000 very quickly by buying a new car, here’s a little bit of info on how to do the opposite. One effect of the dreaded credit-crunch has been the huge fall in values of executive and 4 x 4 cars. Whilst obviously not good news if you’ve recently bought one as it’s most likely that you’ll still owe far more on finance than the car is now worth. If you’re in the market for changing your existing car and fancy something a little more interesting than your average Vectra, you’ll be amazed at what your money can get today! Ok, so it might be a year or two older than a Vectra for the same money, but I’ll bet it’ll last longer and be a lot better to drive.
Here’s a couple of examples to prove my point – these are actual cars on offer through the trade at the moment. These prices include a 12 month warranty, new MOT, service & valet.
Firstly, how about this Audi? Costing it’s first owner a cool £30000 just 2 years ago and with only 33,000 miles on the clock, it’ll be good for another 170,000 miles as long as you don’t mind the 25mpg thirst. Just 6 months ago, you’d have paid around £16000 for this from a dealer, but today it can be yours for a somewhat more reasonable £11495. That’s an awful lot of car for the money and as you waft around in the cool leather interior, you can reflect on how the previous owner feels after having lost over £20000 in 2 years.

What about something really posh? I’ll bet you never imagined you could afford a modern 7 series BMW. Often bought by CEO’s of major companies or by premier leauge footballers, they’re as likely to be driven by a chauffer! This example cost over £54000 just over 2 years ago, and is barely run-in with under 16000 miles on the clock. How much you may ask for such a limousine? Well, let’s just say that a bog-standard brand-new Ford Mondeo 1.6 Zetec costs £17120 and this BMW is £500 less than that!

Now, these are by no means unique examples as there’s literally thousands of similar examples on offer at the moment. I’ve just highlighted these two as even I was astonished at what outstanding value for money they offer. Sure, they’ll cost a bit more in fuel and tyres than an equivalent Mondeo or Vectra, but you’ll enjoy every journey a lot more, and someone else will have paid the initial huge depreciation,so you’ll expect to lose a further £1000 per year for the next couple of years. Fuel is getting cheaper again now and if you don’t cover a huge mileage, the actual cost of running one won’t be too great. If nothing else, even if you are suffering from the effects of the credit-crunch you’ll look and feel like a millionaire driving one of these around! Now, what can I sell ????????
