Well, another busy day today and a few more breakdowns recovered, ready to be fixed over the coming days. A Rover 75 with a blown cylinder head gasket and an Alfa Romeo 147 with a broken camshaft  belt should keep a couple of the technicians busy until the weekend! Despite the rain, we even had a few motorcycles for MOT  including an 1961 Norton!

One thing I’ve noticed over the last few months is the increase in the price of engine oil, that we buy in drums of 208 litres. Modern cars demand specialist oils and it’s no longer a case of one grade of oil being suitable for every car. Fords need a 5W30 Semi-Synthetic oil, most Peugeots use a 10W40 mineral oil, and cars like the VW Golf TDi need a really expensive 0W30 Longlife Synthetic that’s about £45 a can! Looking around the oil store, I counted about 6 different types of specialist oil that we keep in stock, so that we always have the correct oil for the car we’re servicing. Next time you check your oil and find it’s a bit low, make sure you’re using the recommended grade and type for your engine, or you could end up damaging the engine! Still, if you do, we’ll be happy to repair it for you but it won’t be for free!
